John Green - personal statement

As the Chair of ‘Mission Morogoro’ can I welcome you to the pages of our website and invite you to explore further all that we are doing to build real community life in the village area of Tunguli, which is in the Tanga region of Tanzania in a very remote area with a three hour drive over many rough roads to reach the town of Morogoro.

The aim of our Charity is to enable those who live in this beautiful but remote area to build a community which is more resilient and where changes are sustained in the longer term. With this in mind we have worked with all the natural leaders of this wonderful community including the medical profession, hospital managers, school teachers, religious leaders, a significant NGO and all those ordinary villagers who have displayed significant leadership potential to transform life for the those who have now become our ‘friends’.

Over the past thirteen years we have worked tirelessly to improve maternal and child health, created women’s support groups, increased the supply of clean water with new wells, assisted the Health Clinic in many ways including the provision of a motorbike ambulance and worked with a brilliant NGO to provide an annual football tournament which has used the medium of football to bring in countless young people together who have built latrines and provided hand washing stations in the village in order to join one of the teams.
